The piece that makes several cameras one show

A switcher is what turns several cameras into a single programme. Without one, a multi-camera event means recording separately and cutting it together afterwards — which is not an option when the event is going out live.

The AVMATRIX PVS0613U we rent has six channels with both SDI and HDMI inputs, so an older camera and a newer one feed the same body. The 10.1-inch monitor on its face shows every source at once, so the operator can see which camera is ready before cutting to it. The audio mixer is built into the same unit, and its USB 3.0 output appears to a laptop as a webcam — which means Zoom, YouTube, or any other platform takes the feed with no separate capture card.

If you are renting a switcher, plan the cable runs from the cameras to the operator position as well. Long SDI and HDMI runs are in the Cables & Connectors category, and 30 to 60 metres is the distance a ballroom usually asks for.

Rates are per unit per day and exclude 11% VAT, delivery, and an operator.
